Bradley Cooper doesn’t touch the stuff. Neither does Eminem. Jennifer Hudson has never had a drink in her life. Robert Downey Jr. doesn’t partake anymore either. Jennifer Lopez. Ewan McGregor. Colin Farrell. Tobey Macguire. Ben Affleck. All of them sober.
While drinking a glass of champagne at the Golden Globes might be glamorous, these stars choose not to. Jennifer Lopez thinks drinking isn’t good for her skin. At Hollywood parties, when there is a toast, she toasts with one sip of wine and then it’s back to water.
Said Cooper to GQ: “”If I continued [drinking], I was really going to sabotage my whole life.”
What can not drinking do for you? For one thing, it keeps you sharp.
I enjoy listening to music more than anything in life. I’ve always been obsessed with music. But my mental obsession with alcohol took over when I got to college, superceding my love for music.
Now when I go to concerts or festivals, I don’t have worry about having to pee a zillion times. I can stake out my spot up front and not have to go back to the bar to buy another beer every half hour. I can actually feel the music instead of listening to it numb.
And think of all the money you save. I use my “beer money” on vinyl records and I’m building a pretty impressive collection.
We drink classy Italian sodas and fancy sparkling water. We dine at high-end restaurants on the cheap because we don’t buy wine. We’re high on life.
Of the sixteen portraits in my book The Eccentrics, I feature an actress. A dancer. A guitarist. A bass baritone singer. A graphic designer. An intellectual and more. These people are fascinating. Witty. Beautiful. Sophisticated. Charming. And above all else: sober.
There are countless extraordinary stories of recovery out there. Would you like to be featured in The Eccentrics?
Can you top Ethan, the Harvard-educated heroin junkie? Or Kelly, the method-acting meth addict?
Or Jason, the crack addict con artist? I invite you to tell us a little about yourself or share an anecdote here.
You forget one thing that alcohol does. In my case, a couple of glass of wine at dinner makes me sleepy. This is true of my spouse also. This begets falling asleep on the sofa watching TV and not being able to read very long before falling asleep. Alcohol robs you of time. And of course if you are asflicted with bipolar, we have learned, drinking can be life threatening. Highly not recommended as we have told a close relative who has been diagnosed bipolar.
