The metalhead. The indie rocker. The audiophile. The punk rocker. In the age of streaming, you can’t buy the music fan on your list a CD – well I guess you can, but so few of us are using CD players these days. Check out these ideas that are a bit outside the norm.
1. Silkscreened Gig Posters
Tons of rock ‘n’ roll posters are available on Insound.com. These are silkscreens created by visual artists specifically for sale at a particular date on a tour, which makes them extra special.
Have one professionally framed, and it’s the perfect gift for the rocker in your life. I like this one for The Shins.
Others include Foo Fighters, Weezer, Kanye West, The Arcade Fire, The Flaming Lips, Vampire Weekend, Bright Eyes, Bloc Party, Mountain Goats, Bjork, Death Cab for Cutie, Cut Copy, Feist, Japandroids, M83, Morrissey and more.
14.99 – $43.99 at Insound.
2. Beatles Vinyl Box Set
The motherload brand-new Beatles vinyl boxset. Want. Albums include:
Please Please Me With The Beatles A Hard Day’s Night Beatles For Sale Help! Rubber Soul Revolver Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band Magical Mystery Tour The White Album Yellow Submarine Let It Be Abbey Road Past Masters double LP (The Beatles’ original studio album remasters, released on CD in 2009, make their vinyl debut).
$319 at Amazon
3. Rancid Ornament Bundle
Punk collides with Christmas in this set of Rancid ornaments and stocking. Limited edition.
$35 at Machete
4. Metallica Necktie
When you think ties, you think New Wave, ska, ‘80s. But metal? Hell no. Well the guys in Metallica are hawking this necktie. At least it’s understated. Black with Q*Bert-style coiling snakes. There’s also one with ninja stars. Because it’s black on black, you might be able to wear this one to the office after all.
$52.99 at the official Metallica Store.
5. Slayer sweater
Nothing says metal like knitting. You can own this knitted Slayer Christmas sweater for $79.99. With skulls, pentagrams and Slayer’s signature logo, this was available in the official Slayer merchandise store, but unfortunately, it’s currently sold out. Here’s to hoping the band makes sure it’s back in stock before the holidays.
