Matt and Kim on the big screen. See the them playing in the darkness below.
Matt and Kim have more fun on stage than any band in recent memory. And for the crowd, the feeling is mutual. Not even the Flaming Lips or Polyphonic Spree hold a candle to the band’s spunk, energy and overall optimism.
The Brooklyn duo of Matt on keyboards and Kim on drums absolutely oozes happiness and that translates into an exciting, exhilarating, explosive live show. It’s a simple idea, but it works.
The audience was ecstatic every time the band burst into a song new or old. They bounced along to the music, not quite moshing, but kind of close. Call it a happy mosh pit.
This was the band’s biggest-in-size show of the tour, playing in a venue that holds 3,500 people.
Adding to the fun vibes, Matt and Kim are stealth to the occasional hip-hop singalongs, dancing to songs like Ludacris’ “Move Bitch (Get Out The Way)” and DJ Kool’s “Let Me Clear My Throat.”
Kim spent plenty of time standing atop her drum kit joking with the crowd. Matt told an anecdote about the band playing a show on Election Night. He had to ask the audience who won the election. Everyone in the crowd raised their hands in the air in an “O” fashion.
“It’s not just Matt and Kim tonight, it’s all of us together,” Kim said at the end of the show. Something tells me she actually meant it.
Did Kim do her booty shaking crowd surf routine? I’m always amazed when she pulls that off.
Yep. She crowd surfed. Or pretty much “walked on” the audience. I took a ton of pics but none of them turned out. Oh well.
